The Company

Conance Ltd is a provider of trade finance facilities to small and medium sized UK importers. Established in 1985 and with offices in Hertfordshire, UK, they are an independently owned company who pride themselves in their ability to offer a fast and personalised service to their customers.

Challenge

Back in the early 90's Conance adopted DataEase for DOS to monitor debtors and replace their manual system. Over the years the system evolved into a sophisticated integrated system that produces letters of credit, payment requests, monitors their debtors and bank advances as well as foreign exchange contracts. Due to compatibility problems between their DOS application and their upgraded Windows 2000 and XP systems they were faced with the decision of moving to the latest version of DataEase or choosing another Windows solution.

Solution

Having developed a bespoke system in DataEase to their own criteria which they found easy to amend and update, Conance didn't even consider moving to another Windows package. They migrated their own application over a short period of time and have implemented a number of new features which were only available in the Windows product.
By continuing to use the latest DataEase technology Conance were able to continue using in-house skills developed with their familiarity with DataEase DOS, much reducing the overall development time.

The outcome

Conance's staff seem very pleased with the new system and according to Spencer Saffer, Conance's director, the only weakness of DataEase is that they 100% dependant on it!
